The fruit market seemes to be one of the main attractions, with vendors who yell "Oishii ringo!" (Delicious apples!) and such to people passing by. However, I don't think they would have a lot of business if the supermarket wasn't across the street, pulling in the local traffic. The side roads all around this street corner only lead to small residential houses, and every other road lacks any life, aside from residents like myself walking or biking to elsewhere destinations.

The supermarket is always open, even into the late hours of the night, and it's always full of people and overflowing with bicycles out front. I haven't had a chance to yet, but I wanted to ask my host mother if she uses this grocery store or another (if she deems it better than the one close by). We have apples every night after dinner, and I'm curious as to whether she buys them here in town, or somewhere else, such as a store by where she works if it happens to be more convenient.

I like this post - it really has a neighborhood feel to it. It might have been better if you could have asked your host mother - and maybe some other people - your questions so as to put specific information along with your observations. Shopping is certainly an important aspect of living in the neighborhood. Why do people buy certain goods at one store rather than another?
On a technical note, can you insert some space between your posts - it is a little crowded...

Hmm, is this how I reply to another comment? Forgive me, I'm more used to a different layout.
I've since asked my host mother about the market, although my communication skills are most definitely not the greatest. From what I understood, she does go to the market because she claims the fruit is cheap. Unfortunately that's all I can ask.
I was never very fond of that layout, so thank you for pushing me to change it. I hope the new one is better on the eyes.
